This Week in Strange Horizons . . .

I have not one, but two, pieces appearing in Strange Horizons today. One is a review of the video game tie-in novel Gears of War: Aspho Fields, by Karen Traviss. The other is an article, "Revisiting the Victorian Technothriller," which looks at the "invasion story" of the late nineteenth century, and the genre's descendants today.

Also recommended: an interview with science fiction writer and cultural critic Mark von Schlegell, an author about whom you might not have heard much before, but who does say plenty of interest here, particularly about the standing of the novel today, and the prospects for a technological Singularity.
