Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire

Comedy Central's new show Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire is exactly the kind of show I look to cable for: the niche show with a worthwhile concept too unconventional to capture an audience on the scale the networks demand. In this case, as the title more than hints, it's a sword-and-sorcery themed sitcom in which the titular hero (Sean Maguire) and his band of comrades in the resistance do battle with a tyrannical ruler, Chancellor Dongalar (Matt Lucas).

The show treads the obvious path of easy parody, anachronistic pop cultural references and gross-out humor that's much more gross than humorous, but on the positive side there are some funny bits in among the dross, a few entertaining characters in the core group (particularly India de Beaufort's Aneka, and Kevin Hart's Zezelryck), and as of the third episode it seems to be hitting its stride.

I'm not sold on it yet, but I will continue watching.
