New and Noteworthy: Items From the Hiatus (Best VG Movies, Summer B.O., Scott Timberg on Dune, Cory Doctorow on the Ipad)

For various and sundry reasons, I've written relatively little here since March. I've got two new posts up today (one offers my two cents on the rebranded SyFy Channel's first year, the other a review of Bruce Sterling's The Caryatids), and below's a listing of links to things I found interesting during that hiatus:

* Adaptations of video games for the big screen are notoriously poor, as I noted in my article on the subject for Strange Horizons two years ago. Approaching the issue more positively than most, here's a list from Rotten Tomatoes of the best video game adaptations made to date. Meanwhile, Kotaku.com offers its own list of the best movies about video games.

* A slightly dated but still relevant piece about the weak start for the summer box office from Ben Fritz at the L.A. Times' Blog.

* Also from the L.A. Times' Blog: Scott Timberg on Dune, in light of the talk of a big-budget remake.

* An April piece in Publisher's Weekly in which the great Cory Doctorow takes a critical look at the much-hyped Apple Ipad.
