New and Noteworthy (Arthur C. Clarke Award Shortlist, International Science Fiction in 2009, the Dispute at Science Fiction World)

In today's edition:

* Niall Harrison at Torque Control on the short list for this year's Arthur C. Clarke awards, which includes a handy round-up of the links to several reviews available online for each of the novels nominated.

* At Locus, an overview of the best in international science fiction and fantasy during 2009, including a great many notable recent works from outside the English-speaking world (with Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Russia among the countries represented), compiled by Jeff Vandermeer from recommendations by editors, writers and translators in the nations mentioned. As Vandermeer notes, this is a haphazard sampling, and the books here are largely unavailable to English-language readers, but the list has an intrinsic interest nonetheless.

* A detailed treatment of the battle going on over at Science Fiction World, China's famous science fiction magazine, by way of the Chengdu Living blog-just one of several to which links have been made available by The World SF News Blog.
